Where Should I Start?
You’ve got your whole future ahead of you, but being a parent was not in your plans. Your first step is to confirm that you are actually pregnant. We can help.
Start with a free and confidential pregnancy test at LaVie. Even if you’ve taken a home pregnancy test, experts recommend retesting to confirm the results.
Home tests are reliable, but you have to follow the instructions carefully to get an accurate result. Plus, the day and time you test can make all the difference.
If your test at LaVie is positive, we’ll provide a free and confidential limited OB ultrasound. Believe it or not, a late period and a positive pregnancy test may not be enough information to confirm you’re pregnant.
Experts advise that 10 to 20% of all pregnancies end in a miscarriage. The number could even reach 30%. Because it takes your body time to return to pre-pregnancy hormone levels, you could get a positive pregnancy test but no longer be pregnant.
An ultrasound can detect if your pregnancy is developing or if you’ve had a miscarriage. It also confirms how far along you are and whether the location of your pregnancy is safe.
Did You Know You’re Legally Protected as a Pregnant Student?
Under Title IX, you are protected from harassment or discrimination because of your pregnancy. Your school cannot refuse to let you attend classes, play sports, or take part in other extracurricular activities. Other students cannot harass you freely.
You’re allowed to take excused absences for pregnancy or childbirth, and you can return to school at the same academic level. If you feel you’re being harassed, visit your counselor or your school’s Title IX coordinator to file a complaint.
Are You Aware of Your Options?
You have three options: have an abortion, place your child for adoption, or choose to parent.
Abortion
You may be contemplating using the abortion pill method to get rid of the “problem,” but you need to be aware of the potential physical and emotional complications.
Although LaVie doesn’t perform or refer for abortions, we’re not afraid to talk about them. If you’re considering taking the abortion drugs, get the facts first to protect your mental health and safety.
Adoption
So many misunderstandings surround adoption. Today, you are in control. You select the adoptive parents and the amount of contact you wish to have with your child and their adoptive family.

Parenting
