Are you interested in making an adoption plan for your pregnancy, but your parents don’t agree with your decision? It’s never okay for your parents to pressure you into a decision you don’t want to make. They don’t have to agree.

Choosing adoption may be what’s best for you and your situation. Our caring team at LaVie Pregnancy Care Center is here to support you.

What If I’m a Minor?

While adoption laws vary in each state, most states allow you, as the birth mother, to decide the outcome of your pregnancy. There is often no distinction between a minor and an adult birth parent when choosing adoption.

There are only a handful of states that require parental consent for a minor to place a baby for adoption, including Louisiana, Michigan, Minnesota, and Rhode Island.

Choosing an Adoption Plan

The great thing about adoption is that you have more than one adoption plan to choose from. Choose from the following adoption options:

  • Open adoption: With this plan, the birth mother can choose the child’s adoptive family and form a relationship with them. Communication can occur through phone calls, letters, or regular visits.
  • Semi-open adoption: The birth mother has contact with the adoptive family, but all communication is carried out via a third party, like an adoption agency or attorney.
  • Closed adoption: The most private plan, a closed adoption ensures that all identifying records are sealed. The birth mother remains anonymous, with no contact between her and the adoptive family.
