Are you pregnant and unsure what to do next? You are not alone. Maybe you’ve had an abortion and know you don’t want another one. You have two options: making an adoption plan or choosing to parent. Both have their upsides and downsides, but they don’t come with the harsh side effects that abortion does.

1. Adoption

You may have some preconceived ideas about adoption. Adoption has drastically changed over the years, giving the birth mom more say in the process.

Adoption can be an emotional decision, but with the proper support, you may find a lot of joy in deciding on this option. There are multiple adoption plans to choose from, offering you the flexibility to select one that best fits your lifestyle, including:

  • Open adoption: An open adoption is the most flexible adoption plan and gives the birth mother complete control over the process. She gets to choose the adoptive parents and the future she wants for her child. In addition, she and the adoptive family determine how much contact they wish to have with one another and the child.
  • Closed adoption: If you want complete privacy with your adoption and your child, a closed adoption is for you. Your adoption coordinator can choose the family for you based on your requirements. You have no contact with anyone, the courts seal all records, and the woman remains anonymous.
  • Semi-open adoption: A semi-open adoption plan combines the other two types. With this plan, a woman has contact with the adoptive family and her child, but a third party, such as her adoption agency (or attorney), handles all communication.

We know adoption isn’t an easy choice, but it’s a great option if you feel it would be best for your child’s future. It’s a selfless and loving choice.

2. Parenting
